Summershine EPThe story so far…..

We have travelled far, in many ways, from where we were with Psychonaut and the days we found each other, our 1st gig in Brighton and that awesome summer of ‘05. We’d come together, formed a bond and found complete harmony in each others presence. Now, with chilled acoustic tunes in the form of 9 Mile Ride and new hoopy tunes starting to manifest themselves it’s all coming together nicely.

When such a close knit group is working and playing together it’s always difficult for anyone to break the circle and become a part of the family. Then came Ruari. Chatting after a gig one night it took moments before an invite to jam went his way and within fewer moments in the studio he was firmly and surely a Frood. He has added another dimension to our music that we now appreciate we have always needed.

Our soul friend and the life of our party, Frankie, has moved to the other end of the world it seems but is still with us every step of the way. During each infrequent visit we manage to capture some of her magic, but then she radiates it so freely it’s not difficult to do so.

With a new studio space and deeper involvement from Chris, Myshell, Frankie and Ruari, the music has taken a slight detour from its previous journey – we’ll leave it to you to put it in a box, suffice to say that every moment we write we do so with the same level of love and commitment as with our previous offering.

9 Mile Ride? Chris really kicked this off with his array of fine acoustic songs but the project is an outlet for all of our other material that doesn’t sit side by side with recorded Frood music. Its folky, chilled, has vocal harmonies all over the place and is a joy to perform. We tend to roll it all up with the Frood stuff when we play live – come and check it out!

With Hoopy Frood, 9 Mile Ride, gigs and recording, as well as our other commitments, new tunes are taking time to evolve. Maybe, with such strong, positive vibes we will find ourselves working our music full time in the future but in the mean time we offer just three new tracks – Summershine, The Trip and Forever.

Thanks for all the kind words received and the many requests for new music over the past few months. We hope you enjoy our latest phase and we hope to bring you more very soon.

Stay Hoopy!

Nine Mile Ride

To date the whole Hoopy Frood experience has been just one positive, hoopy stepping stone after another with regard to musical endeavours, personal achievement and in particular the building of strong, sound friendships. Steve and Rich started something, albeit by accident, that seems to draw the finest of people in like a magnet and the circle grows ever larger.

The first in this increasingly growing number of froods was Chris Read (acoustic guitar, vocals, cahon, production), followed by Michelle Higgins (vocals) and then Frankie Parker (vocals) who stepped in and gave the music a kiss of life it needed and helped to recreate it live.

Chris had been writing and recording his own chilled acoustic style music for sometime and one of the highlights of a HF rehearsal quickly became to jam Chris' stuff with him. Before long we all started turning up with ideas of a similar ilk and very quickly we realised we had something else to offer, something away from the click tracks and sequencers - we called it Nine Mile Ride.

Gigs came very quickly and performances were, and are completely stress free, fun and easy experiences with great response every time. We hope to see you soon.

Stay hoopy!
